The Terra Nova Tigers will head out to square off against the Carlmont Scots at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Terra Nova's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Carlmont's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Menlo School hit Terra Nova with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 6-0 to the Knights. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Tigers were not able to get on the board.
Terra Nova saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Wilson has hit this season.
Carlmont not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11, 2024 (when they won 18-4). They never let King's Academy get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Scots as they're now sitting on three straight.
Not much got past Jonathan Fong, who gave up just three hits to keep King's Academy off the board. Fong has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pano Koutoulas and Aidan O'Driscoll did most of the damage at the plate: Koutoulas got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while O'Driscoll went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most runs Koutoulas has posted since back in April of 2024. Grant Goetz was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Terra Nova's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4-1. As for Carlmont, their record now sits at 8-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Terra Nova has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Carlmont struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Terra Nova suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Carlmont when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
