Softball Game Preview: Elkhorn Elks vs. Waterford Wolverines

The Elkhorn Elks are taking a road trip to face off against the Waterford Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elkhorn will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, Elkhorn needed a bit of extra time to put away Janesville Parker. They had just enough and edged out the Vikings 5-4. While the Elks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Veronica Siegler spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.7 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Marlee Wester was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kendall Kresen, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Waterford came up short against Elkhorn on Monday, falling 17-7. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elkhorn's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Waterford, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2.

Elkhorn took their victory against Waterford in their previous meeting on Monday by a conclusive 17-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Elks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
