Softball Recap: Wayne Drops Highest Score of Season Against Penn Yan Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wayne). Everything went their way against the Penn Yan Academy Mustangs on Friday as they made off with a 25-8 victory. With that win, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Myia Eskander made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Wayne got a massive performance out of Jessy Newmyer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Newmyer also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Zoe Eaton was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

Wayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Penn Yan Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Wayne will be playing in front of their home fans against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Penn Yan Academy, they will take on Dundee/Bradford Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
