Softball Recap: Jacobs Golden Eagles vs. Lake Zurich Bears

Suggested Video

Jacobs extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-13 in the process. They came up short against the Lake Zurich Bears, falling 12-5. If the Golden Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 22-11 to the Bears when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jianna Tanada and Molly Hoch did some serious damage despite the final result: Tanada went 1-for-3 with three runs and one triple, while Hoch went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That triple marked the first that Tanada has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Fillipp, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Lake Zurich, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On Lake Zurich's side, Juliana Kekstadt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Lake Zurich got a massive performance out of Claire Kohlman, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. What's more, Kohlman posted two hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Brianna Rubicz was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

While Jacobs had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
