Volleyball Preview: Ledyard Colonels vs. Woodstock Academy Centaurs
Ledyard is 1-9 against Woodstock Academy since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ledyard Colonels will head out to square off against the Woodstock Academy Centaurs at 5:00 p.m.
Last Friday, Ledyard didn't have quite enough to beat Windham and fell 3-2. The Colonels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Ledyard actually scored more points across those five sets (105-104), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-25, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Woodstock Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over the Bulldogs.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Woodstock Academy was: they took every set by at least ten points. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-6, 25-15.
Woodstock Academy can attribute much of their success to Sophie Gronski, who had eight aces, a kill, and 18 assists. Gronski is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 12 or more in the last 45 games she's played dating back to last season.
Woodstock Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 23 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Ledyard's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Woodstock Academy, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-3.
