Baseball Game Preview: Monte Vista Monarchs vs. El Cajon Valley Braves

For the second straight game, Monte Vista will face off against El Cajon Valley. The Monarchs will be playing at home against the Braves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monte Vista's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on El Cajon Valley with a sharp 18-0 win. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Monarchs this season.

Adrian Gutierrez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Damian Ordaz and Anthony Kephart did most of the damage at the plate: Ordaz went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Kephart went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Kephart has become a key player for Monte Vista: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-16 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavier Wilson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Monte Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.8.

El Cajon Valley is on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15. As for Monte Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 5-17.
