Softball Recap: El Camino Extends Winning Streak to Three

El Camino waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Coastal Academy Stingrays. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Stingrays walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Kayla Layland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, El Camino saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Boone, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

El Camino's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Coastal Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

El Camino wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 8-0 win against Vista on the 15th. As for Coastal Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 7-3 victory against San Dieguito Academy on the 23rd.
