Basketball Recap: Miami-Yoder Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Miami-Yoder Buffaloes didn't have quite enough to beat the Cotopaxi Pirates and fell 29-26.

When it comes to explaining why Miami-Yoder lost, don't look at Kylie McKnight. Despite the final result, she posted nine points and seven steals. The dominant performance also gave McKnight a new career-high in assists (four).

Even though they lost, Miami-Yoder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Cotopaxi was led to victory by Hayden Eggleston and Kelsey Teter. Eggleston scored 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Teter put up five points along with 14 boards and four blocks. That makes it six consecutive games in which Eggleston has scored at least a third of Cotopaxi's points.

Miami-Yoder's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Cotopaxi, they moved to 6-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Miami-Yoder will host Fountain Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Miami-Yoder's defense has only allowed 28.7 points per game this season, so Fountain Valley's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Cotopaxi, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake City Community at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
