Football Recap: Trinity Christian Comes Up Short

Trinity Christian extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-5. They were beaten by the Parish Episcopal Panthers 55-14. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-7.

Trinity Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chase Griffin, who picked up 147 receiving yards and one TD. Griffin was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 50 yards.

As for Parish Episcopal, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Trinity Christian is ranked 623rd).

Parish Episcopal's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxon McKinney led the charge by rushing for 121 yards and one score on only five carries. Those 121 rushing yards gave McKinney a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Hanish, who rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Trinity Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Bishop Lynch at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. Meanwhile, Parish Episcopal will face off against rival Liberty Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 938 yards in their previous games.
