Softball Game Preview: Reading Red KNights vs. Exeter Township Eagles

Reading hasn't had much luck against Exeter Township recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Red KNights will challenge the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Reading has given up an average of 16.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Reading is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Friday. They lost 15-0 to J.P. McCaskey. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Reading saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kellyn Paulino, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Exeter Township had just enough and edged out Lampeter-Strasburg 9-7 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Mackenzie O'Brien was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. O'Brien was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Cheyenne Boyles was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery Gibbons was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Exeter Township kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Reading's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Exeter Township, their record is now 7-10.

Reading suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Exeter Township in their previous meeting on April 3rd. Can the Red KNights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
