Baseball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

If Gateway was riding high fresh off their 16-7 takedown of Cape Coral on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Eagles lost 10-3 to the Southwest Florida Christian King on Friday.

Gateway saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kevin Rodriguez Marrero, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Rodriguez Marrero has brought in this season.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Southwest Florida Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Gateway will venture away from home to face off against Cypress Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Southwest Florida Christian, they will head out to challenge Bradenton Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something the King's will no doubt try to take advantage of.
