Softball Recap: Merrimack Valley's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Merrimack Valley dropped their record down to 7-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oyster River Bobcats. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Pride couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Oyster River, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Oyster River's part, Sammy Bishop made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Bishop has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Morgan Trela and Gracy Spirito did most of the damage at the plate: Trela went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Spirito went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kate Michaud, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

While Merrimack Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Friday.
