Portola waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Oxford Academy Patriots 15-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-11 last Friday.
Kyuri Kim was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Kim was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Ryan Antunez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Shin, who went 1-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
The victory got Portola back to even at 4-4. As for Oxford Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Portola will head out to face off against Newport Harbor at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Sailors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.11 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oxford Academy, they will square off against Loara at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
