Softball Recap: Willcox Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Willcox won the last time they faced Bisbee and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cowboys put the hurt on the Pumas with a sharp 25-5 victory. Considering the Cowboys have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Alyssa Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karlie St Clair, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Layla Donahue, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI.

Willcox always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. They are 13-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Willcox is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.9 runs over those games. As for Bisbee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9.

Coming up, Willcox is taking a road trip to face off against Miami at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vandals will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Cowboys surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bisbee, they will be playing at home against Benson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
