Softball Recap: Verrado Beats Buckeye for Their 14th Straight Victory

Verrado had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 14 on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Buckeye Hawks as they made off with an 18-3 victory. Considering the Vipers have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jill Ryan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Ryan was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Dakota Chazaro was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Faith Grabau was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

Verrado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buckeye only posted an OBP of .238.

Verrado's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Buckeye, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Verrado will venture away from home to square off against Desert Edge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vipers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scorpions have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Buckeye, they will head out to take on North Canyon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
