Softball Recap: Hilmar Starts off Right with Win over Downey

Hilmar had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Downey Knights onto the board and left with a 20-0 win. The Yellowjackets have beaten the Knights the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Destiny Denys was a standout: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 5-for-5. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (five). Another player making a difference was Paftyn Pajela, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Downey is on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hilmar will welcome Summerville at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downey, they will square off against Sierra at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
