Baseball Recap: Umatilla Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Rainier, Umatilla was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Riverside Pirates. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Vikings also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2025.

Carter Griggs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Bryce Morris was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Xzavier Rodriguez, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Umatilla's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Pirates beat Umatilla by a score of 18-3 later that day.
