Recap: Jonesboro Cardinals vs. Lovejoy Wildcats
Even though the Jonesboro Cardinals have not done well against the Lovejoy Wildcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Jonesboro walked away with a 37-27 victory over Lovejoy. Given Jonesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Lovejoy is ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jonesboro found their leader in underclassman Brianna Mason, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Mason also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Janiya Hullett was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Jonesboro has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Lovejoy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jonesboro won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Mundy's Mill at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Mundy's Mill and Jonesboro are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Lovejoy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Forest Park at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Forest Park has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
