Basketball Recap: Nordhoff Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hueneme

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nordhoff). They blew past the Hueneme Vikings 82-46 on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Nordhoff's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cayden Budlong, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds. Budlong has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jeremy Kirchner was another key player, going 9 for 13 en route to 21 points and seven boards.

Budlong wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Nordhoff was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hueneme only posted five assists.

Hueneme lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jayani Cortez, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points. Cortez is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Richardson, who posted 13 points.

Nordhoff moved to 7-17 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Hueneme, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-22 record this season.

Nordhoff didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-36 defeat against Channel Islands on the 31st. Hueneme has also already played their next game, a 71-63 loss against Trinity Classical Academy on the 31st.
