Recap: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Fernley Vaqueros

The Spring Creek Spartans suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 69-18 loss at the hands of Fernley. Spring Creek was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-14.

Fernley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taylor Tollestrup led the charge by scoring 18 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Tollestrup is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmyne Torres, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five steals.

Spring Creek has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Fernley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Spring Creek will take on Elko at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Elko is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for Fernley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Churchill County at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully Churchill County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 on Friday.
