Basketball Recap: Swansboro Makes It 19 in a Row on the Road

Swansboro had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 75-60 win over the Croatan Cougars. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Cougars are ranked 143rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Swansboro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tayvion Tangiora, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 19 rebounds. What's more, Tangiora also racked up four blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Swansboro was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Croatan only posted 11 assists.

Croatan lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Trey Jones, who went 8 of 20 en route to 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kannon McBride, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Swansboro's victory was their 19th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points per game. As for Croatan, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Swansboro and Croatan will both be playing Dixon the next time they take the court. Croatan will host Dixon at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while Swansboro will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
