Baseball Recap: Shelton Victorious

While Shelton's win against Centralia wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Highclimbers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Tigers on Friday. The Highclimbers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Carl Turnbow made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Turnbow wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Crossan, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave Crossan a new career-high.

Shelton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Shelton's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Centralia, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Shelton will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on the 15th.
