Softball Recap: R-S Central's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

R-S Central dropped their record down to 13-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Lincoln Rebels. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Hilltoppers couldn't push the score so high this time.

R-S Central saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Harris, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

As for West Lincoln, they pushed their record up to 12-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On West Lincoln's side, Gabrielle Wright spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. Wright has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Stacia Cowan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Kaitlyn Carpenter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, R-S Central will head out to face off against McDowell at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hilltoppers 2.4, the Titans 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West Lincoln, they have already played their next match, a 4-1 win against Draughn on the 15th.
