Football Recap: Lake Howell Starts Season with Loss at Home + How To Watch

Lake Howell unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 40-21 bruising from the Hagerty Huskies on Friday. The Silverhawks have struggled against the Huskies recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Howell lost, don't look at Malek Wilkerson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 70 yards and one TD, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one score. Shamar Morris was another key player, gaining 65 total yards and a touchdown.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 12 in total. Jesus Quintero delivered a perfect 3-3 game.

Royce Jenkins had an outrageously good game for Hagerty as he rushed for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 241 yards and three TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes. A healthy portion of Jenkins' aerial production (97 yards to be exact) went to Greg (Tre) Weatherington III, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Lake Howell has already played their next game, a 28-19 win against Flagler Palm Coast on the 29th. As for Hagerty, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 22-16 loss against Boone on the 29th.
