Softball Recap: Northern Bedford County Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mcconnellsburg

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northern Bedford County). They put the hurt on the McConnellsburg Spartans with a sharp 13-1 win on Saturday. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Spartans, too.

Mylee Mitchell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Northern Bedford County let Ava Helsel and Kaylee Ebersole run wild. Helsel went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Ebersole went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave Helsel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Myha Dixon, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.

Northern Bedford County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Northern Bedford County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for McConnellsburg, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern Bedford County will face off against Williamsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers are facing the Blue Pirates at the right time seeing as the Blue Pirates are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for McConnellsburg, they will venture away from home to square off against Forbes Road at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
