Basketball Game Preview: Hoxie Mustangs vs. Piggott Mohawks

The Hoxie Mustangs will head out to face off against the Piggott Mohawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Hoxie and 11 for Piggott.

Hoxie is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Harrisburg on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Hoxie was dealt a 64-34 defeat at the hands of Harrisburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered against the Hornets since November 15, 2016.

Meanwhile, Piggott came up short against Rector on Thursday and fell 65-52. While losing is never fun, the Mohawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arkansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Cougars are ranked 129th).

Hoxie's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Piggott, their loss dropped their record down to 1-16.

Everything came up roses for Hoxie against Piggott in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 71-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hoxie since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
