Softball Game Preview: Hiawatha Hawks vs. South Beloit Sobos

The Hiawatha Hawks are taking a road trip to take on the South Beloit Sobos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hiawatha is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Hiawatha fell victim to Indian Creek and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Timberwolves.

Meanwhile, South Beloit was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Polo, falling 12-4.

Whitney Schnack was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Taniyah Crawford, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

South Beloit's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Hiawatha, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hiawatha has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Beloit struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Hiawatha suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to South Beloit when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
