Union Grove Christian comes up short despite Colin Wykes' strong performance

Recap: Union Grove Christian Patriots vs. Gospel Light Christian

It was a good run, but the Union Grove Christian Patriots unfortunately witnessed the end of their 17-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Gospel Light Christian by a score of 52-49. Union Grove Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Union Grove Christian still got an impressive performance from Colin Wykes, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. That was a full 44.9% of Union Grove Christian's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Smith, who scored nine points.

Gospel Light Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samuel Sisk, who scored 16 points along with six steals. Drake Walker was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds.

Union Grove Christian's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 22-4. As for Gospel Light Christian, their win bumped their record up to 13-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Grove Christian will challenge the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Faith Christian will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Patriots are ranked 180th). As for Gospel Light Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
