Football Recap: Morton Comes Up Short

Morton played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Eunice Cardinals 88-36. Even if the Indians couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

Elijah Melancon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Eunice, rushing for 165 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while also throwing for 215 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes. Melancon also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making eight total tackles and defending one pass.

This is the second loss in a row for Morton and nudges their season record down to 0-2-1. As for Eunice, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morton will head out to take on Dimmitt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eunice, they will venture away from home to challenge St. Michael's at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,024 yards in their previous games.
