Softball Game Preview: Nelson County Governors vs. Gretna Hawks

The Nelson County Governors are taking a road trip to face off against the Gretna Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Nelson County is looking for their season's first victory.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Nelson County's offense. They came up short against Appomattox County two weeks ago, falling 13-0.

Meanwhile, Gretna lost 11-3 to Altavista on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Colonels: they've now lost three in a row.

Gretna saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Brooks, who fired off two home runs while going 3-for-4. Those home runs were Brooks' first of the season.

Nelson County's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Gretna, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Nelson County's way against Gretna when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Nelson County made off with a 9-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Governors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
