Preview: Coppell Cowboys vs. Guyer Wildcats
The Coppell Cowboys will face off against the Guyer Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Coppell put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 44-0 victory over Plano. Given Coppell's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Plano is ranked 397th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Guyer was fully in charge on Thursday, breezing past Rock Hill 42-14 on the road.
Ahmed Yussuf was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Coppell pushed their record up to 10-0 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.1 points per game. As for Guyer, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Coppell took a serious blow against Guyer when the teams last played back in December of 2020, falling 52-24. Thankfully for Coppell, Byron Phillips jr. (who rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
