Recap: St. Charles vs. Northern Patriots
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 24 to 15 on the offensive boards, a fact St. Charles proved on Wednesday. They came out on top against Northern by a score of 54-41. The win made it back-to-back wins for St. Charles.
St. Charles found their leader in underclassman Nayja Richardson, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaela Spears, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Several Patriots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mikayla Jones, who scored 16 points. Erin Murphy was another key contributor, scoring four points.
St. Charles' win bumped their record up to 6-2-1. As for Northern, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Charles will challenge La Plata at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. La Plata will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while St. Charles is ranked 65th). As for Northern, they will head out on the road to face off against Patuxent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patuxent will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
