The Heritage Christian Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Taft Toreadors at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Heritage Christian had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 17-run drubbing they dealt Glendale on Thursday. Heritage Christian never let Glendale get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Soraya Chavez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Aubrey Akins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Heritage Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glendale only posted an OBP of .235.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Taft). They put the hurt on Grant with a sharp 12-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Toreadors in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won five in a row.
Chiara Cioffi was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in hits (zero). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adriana Garcia, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ariyah Williams, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
The win was the third in a row for Heritage Christian, bringing their record up to 7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Taft, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heritage Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .448. However, it's not like Taft struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
