Fort Bend Austin has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Fort Bend Travis Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Fort Bend Austin put the finishing touches on their 21st blowout victory of the season on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 64-27 win over Fort Bend Clements on the road. Given Fort Bend Austin's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Fort Bend Clements is ranked 1156th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Bend Austin can attribute much of their success to Andrea Sturdivant, who scored 18 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds, and Shun?teria Anumele, who scored 25 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Sturdivant has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Pfeiffer Greene, who scored nine points along with three steals and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Fort Bend Travis came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Fort Bend Clements, posting a 73-23 win at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Fort Bend Travis has posted yet this season.
Fort Bend Austin's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.4 points per game. As for Fort Bend Travis, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-16 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Fort Bend Austin against Fort Bend Travis in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 60-19 victory. Will Fort Bend Austin repeat their success, or does Fort Bend Travis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
