League recap: Centennial beats Malcolm in tight affair

C2 District 5 recap October 1, 2013

Centennial and Malcolm played the most contested game in C2 District 5 this week, with Centennial eventually emerging with a 26-23 victory. Kyle Gierhan threw for 145 yards and ran for 88 yards in the win.

Twin River lost to Aquinas 65-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Beau Wattier ran for 21 yards in the loss.

The Clippers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Webster threw for 157 yards and Wade Scripter had 76 yards receiving. On the ground Jordan Redler chipped in 88 yards.

Gierhan provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Broncos topped Malcolm. Gierhan's favorite target this week was David Payne, who caught 2 passes for 69 yards.

Scripter was the best wideout in the league this week as Scott Amen's team fell to Centennial. Scripter tallied 4 receptions for 76 yards.

The Clippers' Webster and Scripter have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Webster has thrown for 653 yards this season, while Scripter has 13 catches for 270 yards. Joey Hagerbaumer from Twin River leads the league in rushing with 319 yards.

The Monarchs are currently in second, while Yutan is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Aquinas takes on the Chieftains. Ron Mimick's team has allowed 27 points this season, while Yutan has given up 49. The Monarchs allowed 0 points last week as they defeated Todd Connelly's team.
