Softball Recap: Hesston Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hillsboro

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hesston). They were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Hillsboro Trojans on Tuesday. The Swathers have beaten the Trojans the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.

Brenlyn Richmond was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Wendy Roth was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Elyse Griffin was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Hesston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hillsboro only posted an OBP of .318.

The win got Hesston back to even at 3-3. As for Hillsboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Hesston wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-2 defeat against Halstead on the 4th. As for Hillsboro, they have also already played their next game, a 12-0 loss against Haven on the 3rd.
