Basketball Recap: Perkins County Comes Up Short

Perkins County suffered their closest defeat since January 18, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos by a score of 51-48. The Plainsmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Perkins County still got an impressive performance from Libby Cole, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Addison York also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Perkins County was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wauneta-Palisade only racked up eight assists.

Izzy Stehno was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. She is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. Mesa Cox was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Perkins County and nudges their season record down to 4-8. As for Wauneta-Palisade, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-7 record.

Perkins County will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Holyoke at 4:00 p.m. on January 28th. Wauneta-Palisade has already played their next contest, a 35-31 loss against Garden County on the 18th.
