Springfield fell victim to A.J. Ellender and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Brock Cothern spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

Springfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. A.J. Ellender's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13.
