Baseball Recap: Hiawatha Gets the Win

Hiawatha hadn't done well against Indian Creek recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hawks came out on top against the Timberwolves by a score of 12-7. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Bentley Payne was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Hiawatha: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Thomas Giebel, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hiawatha kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Hiawatha's win bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Indian Creek, they dropped their record down to 1-22 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Hiawatha will face off against South Beloit at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Sobos will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. Indian Creek does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
