Basketball Game Preview: Laurel Spartans vs. Union Area Scotties

The Laurel Spartans will square off against the Union Area Scotties at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Tuesday, Laurel was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-45 to Ellwood City. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Wolverine: they've now lost six in a row.

Meanwhile, Union Area put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 56-27 victory over Freedom Area. The Scotties pushed the score to 49-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bulldogs cut but never quite recovered from.

Union Area's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Laurel, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Laurel might still be hurting after the 60-40 loss they got from Union Area in their previous matchup back in January. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Laurel was down 45-21.
