High school football: Top 10 games of the 2023 season

No. 1 Mater Dei at No. 3 St. John Bosco set for mid-October, St. Frances Academy featured in five of 10 games.

The 2023 high school football season is loaded with huge games that will alter the MaxPreps Top 25 in dramatic ways. At the top of the list, the sport's biggest rivalry will be renewed Oct. 13 as No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) plays at No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). The Trinity League programs have combined to capture four of the past seven national titles.

Both Mater Dei and St. John Bosco are featured in multiple games on the list. The Monarchs travel to Baltimore to face No. 6 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) on Oct. 22. The Braves have a huge road test in Florida at No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) on Aug. 26.

No team will face a tougher schedule than St. Frances Academy. The Baltimore power is featured in five of the 10 games featured with four of those coming on the road.



Another contest sure to impact the national rankings will be No. 5 Central (Miami) traveling to Las Vegas to take on No. 2 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Sept. 1. This will be the third meeting between the two since 2017 with Central winning 24-20 in 2017 and Gorman prevailing 21-20 in 2021.
