Baseball Recap: Southwest Guilford's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Southwest Guilford can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Northwest Guilford Vikings, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cowboys have posted against the Vikings since April 26, 2022.

Kaden Morgan made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Brendan Snider was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Southwest Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest Guilford only posted an OBP of .303.

Southwest Guilford's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Northwest Guilford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-11.

Southwest Guilford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northwest Guilford, they will venture away from home to take on Ragsdale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
