Basketball Recap: Madison-Ridgeland Academy Takes a Loss

Madison-Ridgeland Academy has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 37-36 to Rockvale, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Patriots came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 12th in Mississippi, while Rockvale are ranked 101st in Tennessee).

Rockvale got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Amaya Nash out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Nash has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Caydence Thomas, who posted nine points and three steals.

Madison-Ridgeland Academy's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Rockvale, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.

Madison-Ridgeland Academy will square off against Bayou Academy at 2:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Rockvale, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-39 win against Houston on the 28th.
