Football Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Lafayette Jefferson had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell 35-28 to the Indianapolis Bishop Chatard Trojans on Friday. The game was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but the Bronchos couldn't quite close it out.

Lafayette Jefferson's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omar Williams Jr, who picked up 207 receiving yards and two TDs. Williams Jr's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 105 receiving yards dating back to last season. Trysten Barrett was another key passer, throwing for 373 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.

Lafayette Jefferson and Indianapolis Bishop Chatard should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bronchos (ranked 35th) will meet Michigan City (ranked 85th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Indianapolis Bishop Chatard will take on Hanover Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (12 vs. 87).
