Baseball Recap: Canyon Crest Academy Comes Up Short

Canyon Crest Academy extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-10-1 in the process. They lost 13-5 to the Escondido Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Ravens of the 9-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2017.

Ryan Rechs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Escondido, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-2. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Escondido's side, Ryder Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Taylor has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Escondido got a massive performance out of Ace Sanchez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Sanchez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Andrew Carrilo, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Escondido beat Canyon Crest Academy by a score of 5-1 on Friday.
