Basketball Recap: Connor Ward Key Part of Team Effort in Raiders Win + How To Watch

On Thursday North Iredell's undefeated season almost came to an end. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-50 victory over the Newton-Conover Red Devils. While the Raiders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

North Iredell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Connor Ward, who shot 50% from the field en route to 17 points and three steals. Ward is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Kris Coleman also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

North Iredell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Several Red Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braxton Eckard, who posted 13 points and five assists. Another player making a difference was Kingston Lineberger, who put up 13 points.

North Iredell's record now sits at 4-0. As for Newton-Conover, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

North Iredell has already played their next contest, a 65-56 loss against West Rowan on the 5th. As for Newton-Conover, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-45 win against East Burke on the 5th.
