Basketball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon's tournament run continued when they took on Civic Memorial on Friday. The Mattoon Greenwave took a hard 64-48 fall against the Civic Memorial Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while the Eagles are ranked 155th).

Civic Memorial got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was August Frankford out in front who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Frankford is now averaging an impressive 8.2 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Kilpatrick, who went 5 for 10 en route to 13 points.

Mattoon's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Civic Memorial, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-6.

Mattoon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-55 defeat against Taylorville on the 25th. Civic Memorial has also already played their next match, a 60-49 loss against Triad on the 25th.
