Football Recap: California Starts off Right with Win over Serra Catholic

California had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 44-14 victory over the Serra Catholic Eagles. That's more bragging rights for the Trojans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Malachi Peak was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 148 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Logan Hartley was another key player, rushing for 23 yards and one touchdown.

California's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. In that department, Noah Layhue was the leader with four sacks.

California didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-32 win against Cornell on the 29th. As for Serra Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 79-0 defeat against Clairton on the 29th.
