Basketball Recap: Zuni Thunderbirds vs. Navajo Prep Eagles
Zuni lost against Navajo Prep back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Zuni Thunderbirds were beaten by the Navajo Prep Eagles 94-56.

Zuni lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Terrance Smith, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Deron Lastyano, who put up 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.
Even though they lost, Zuni smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Zuni has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for Navajo Prep, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Zuni Thunderbirds challenge the Crownpoint Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Zuni knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Crownpoint likes a good challenge. As for Navajo Prep, they are taking a road trip to face off against Wingate at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
