Wakefield faced Millbrook in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Wolverines blew past the Wildcats, posting a 33-0 victory. The Wolverines' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last eight matchups.

A big part of Wakefield's win came down to the chemistry between Quinn Pope and her top target Lyla Bagwell. Pope threw for 92 yards and three TDs while completing 72.2% of her passes while Bagwell picked up 65 receiving yards and a pair of scores. What's more, Bagwell posted two receiving touchdowns, the most she's had over her last five contests.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Wakefield's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Taylor Wallace, Payton Smith, and Jamiya Hodge, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Wakefield's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Millbrook, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Wakefield is set to take on their familiar foe Rolesville at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Millbrook will face off against rival Broughton at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Wildcats 14.2, the Capitals 11.1) so any points scored will be well earned.
